Over the past year, I have observed something quite disturbing about our generation. We are all about what we can have right now and spending money we don’t have. Unlike past generations who were about saving for the future, we only care about the thrill and benefits we can have right NOW, without a second thought about what the future will bring. The average person can’t go to college without having tons of debt, and you can forget about getting anywhere without credit. Many people think that just because they are loaned money or have a credit card, they can spend it, without a thought that they will have to pay it back, plus MORE. So, why would you spend money that isn’t yours and you can’t pay back? We wonder why so many people are having money problems. At this point, retirement for our generation is a far and distant impossibility. I’m not saying that our government hasn’t played a part in this chain reaction, but it all starts with YOU, the people of America. Yes, our country is in debt, but the individuals of this country also have no idea how to manage money. If you’re going to complain about the government, then get out there and vote for what’s right. You can also lead by example. This country has turned into something completely opposite of the very principles it was founded on.
“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
-United States Constitution
What’s happened to these founding principles of our country? It’s not just the people in governmental positions that aren’t living up to these guidelines. It’s so disheartening to see the country I live in and love spiraling down a path of undeniable destruction. If we let it continue, we are not respecting the brave men and women who fought and are fighting for what our country stands for. We, the people of the United States need to stand up for what this country was originally founded upon. We need to stop just living in the moment, and we need to live in the moment FOR the future.
I’m not condemning anyone, and I’m not implying that I don’t fall into the trap of the “now” generation. However, I want to warn my fellow Americans and children of God that when God is taken out of something, it becomes impossible. Let God back into our hearts, lives, and country—and I’m relaying the promise that anything will be possible.
“With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:26
